The Dog From Hell

On our marathon trip to Yellowknife, we stopped at a small village in northern Alberta. They had a beautiful central park with picnic tables, none of which were in use. We decided to unpack our lunch and enjoy. But as soon as we exited the car we were bombarded with mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds. Lunch was in the car
The skyline of Yellowknife was spectacular. Note the granite of the Canadian Shield in the foreground
Three hundred miles from anywhere, Yellowknife residents use aircraft to get to major cities
Old Town's most famous cafe
Skis from the 1960s, 1980s to the 2000s. New shaped skis notwithstanding, the Salomon's were the most exciting skis I ever owned. I was even asked--on the slopes--If I would sell them
Wonderful memories of the joy of skiing. The Atomic slalom skis were great fun. My favorite skiing songs were by Billy Vaughn; slow swing with Sail Along Silvery Moon and high speed slalom turns with Swingin' Safari.
Jette House
My home-built, outdoor fireplace--wish I could have brought it with us. Note the native grasses I planted in the background
Our Jette home surrounded by aspen, fir and larch. It was spectacular in the autumn
The Jette house was well insulated and used an efficient wood-burning stove.
The deck I built to my back's endless regret
PJ loved her personal rug in front of the 400lb beast
Grandson fishing in our small Jette Lake. He landed a beautiful rainbow
The magnificent larch, a deciduous conifer, that turned
a gorgeous gold in the autumn. World's best firewood
Bears were very common migrating through our property to reach the water at Jette lake. They were, however, unwelcome inside a house. To poor PJ, bears were the dogs from hell!
Pygmy Owls

The male Pygmy owl nesting on our property. Very aggressive, they nail prey nearly as big as they are

The back "deck" of our room overlooked the northern Rockies
Interior of the Lodge. Note the fir trunks, transported in from the west coast. Our room was on the second floor to the right
